Esther
Esther
My Great Grandma Esther lived in a pink house in Vallejo, CA. She came to America from Rhodes, an island off of Greece where Sephardic Jews expelled from Spain had made a home for themselves many centuries ago. Every other weekend my Mom would take me there to be picked up by my Dad and spend some quality time with my Great Grandma. These afternoons are vividly written in my memory. She would tell us we were too skinny and offer us bourekas, hard boiled eggs, and miniature cans of seven up. Looking back now, I can see my affinity for vintage things being born out of these visits and that pink house. I found an old photo of what I’m guessing was a Passover celebration, and I spotted her immediately in the crowd. Her gaze was fierce and unwavering, a strength I imagine she cultivated after many great transformations.
This set of three 8x12 inch Giclee fine art prints were put together in loving memory of Esther.
